Sowing....

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-28 - 09:14:16

These words came from my daily readings this morning.....

Sow a thought, reap an action. Sow an action, reap a habit. Sow a habit, reap a lifestyle. Sow a lifestyle, reap a destiny.

Don't use words too big for the subject. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite.  C S Lewis

Another Joyful Weekend Goes By

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-25 - 08:12:09

I've had a really exciting and busy weekend but I have loved every minute of it.

We had a fantastic team out on the streets on Friday night, we had a great time together and really enjoyed our time of serving God in the community. It's a real privilege to be able to go out and chat to the merry-makers and build friendships with them and it's a really exciting work to be involved in.

The weather held out on Saturday for our trip to the farm with Kelly and my nephews and niece and we had a lovely time feeding the goats, chickens, ostrich, horses, sheeps, pigs, cows etc. My littlest nephew, at 2 years old just has no fear at all and was well in there with them all. It was great fun. We also had to visit the park to go on the swings and the slide!

The film 'Jumper' was a bit pants - it was an evening out but the storyline was rather weird. John enjoyed it more - as I thought he would, it was more his kind of film.

Sunday was a usual day of great blessing and much joy. We had 2 cracking services at Church both of which were very challenging and thought-provoking. I also went up to the Hillsong Vision Service where we had 2 and a half hours of great worship and watched footage of their work around the globe and their vision for the future - it was amazing stuff. God really is working everywhere - all around the world and it is such a joy to see. I love the fact that I can meet with different people from all over the world and that we have God in common. Yes, we may 'do church' slightly differently or have a few differences of opinions but we have the same Saviour - and that thrills me. At the prayer meeting on saturday night I heard all about the plans for the Global Day of Prayer at Millwall and again that sounds like it will be a really blessed occasion - last year's was good but this year's looks to be even better.

I have had so much exposure this weekend to christian fellowship, biblical teaching, worship and prayer and it's been really good - I'm buzzing from it all.

Weekend line up

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-22 - 19:21:15

I've got a real busy weekend lined up but am so looking forward to it. Not sure when I'm gonna get done all those outstanding things like housework, washing, gardening etc though! Never mind they can wait another week  :D

Out tonight street pastoring, taking my 2 nephews and 1 niece out for the afternoon to Christmas Tree Farm tomorrow to see the animals and have some fun - hope the weather's good! Followed by a Prayer Meeting for the Borough tomorrow night - hopefully there will be a good worship time there too, there was last time. It'll be great to catch up with friends from other churches again though and spend time together. Then it's off to the cinema for the late showing of the film 'Jumper' - hope thats good too, it's more up John's street than mine but I will reserve judgement until afterwards!

On Sunday we have a visiting speaker at Church both morning and evening who is usually really good to listen to and very down to earth. So that should be good, and then in between times there is a special service at Hillsong in London where they are recording a new CD/DVD - so that should be great too.

Bring it on! :p

Brain Bender for Friday Morning

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-22 - 09:15:10

Get your head round this one

2 sons and 2 fathers go fishing. They each catch one fish. The total number of fish they caught was 3 fish. How is this possible?

Any answers?
Will post it tonight if no one get's there first.

Joy

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-21 - 19:25:03

The book I've just finished reading is all about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the joy that we can find in knowing God in all His fullness. In 1 Peter 1v8 we're told that we should be filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, I found this poem which pretty much sums up my feelings of joy when I think of all that Christ has done for me.

Tears of Joy

When I behold Thy peerless face.
Beaming with love, O Lord.
What fear have I of earthly woe
Or of the frown of sorrow?

As the first ray of the dawning sun dispels the dark.
So too, Lord, when Thy blessed light
Bursts forth within the heart.
It scatters all our grief and pain with sweetest balm.

When on Thy love and grace I ponder,
In my heart's deepest depths.
Tears of joy stream down my cheeks
beyond restraining.

Hail, Gracious Lord! Hail.
Gracious One! I shall proclaim Thy love.
May my life-breath depart from me as
I perform Thy works.

More please.

So, yes we had a great time in France at the weekend. We pretty much got done all that we set out to do, decorating wise.
It was lovely to wake up naturally instead of to the sound of the traffic passing each morning. In fact, we woke up to the sound of a woodpecker pecking the tree each morning.
We paid a nice visit to Torigni-Sur-Vire market and bought some great sausages in baguettes, freshly cooked - well scrummy. It was so nice not to charge around everywhere and be at a relaxed pace - we hardly looked at a watch all weekend.
I finished my book which I had hoped to do ages ago and it was just nice to sit and chill and relax a little, as well as go for the occasional walk.
Basically, a good weekend was had by all and we can't wait to do it again!

Ambling a Francais

A few weeks ago Arnica here in Blogland posted a virtual walk around her area of France and invited us to all do the same. So, whilst in France myself this weekend I thought I'd give it a go........

My house is to the right in the background.

Away for the Weekend

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-15 - 11:30:07

I've been rather busy this week - not a lot of time for blogging or being sociable I'm afraid. Lots going on in readiness for this weekend. We are off to the house in France for a long weekend. Lots to take over with us which has meant lots of shopping and rummaging in the loft etc. Still, we will be off in a few hours and what we haven't got this time can wait till the next I suppose.

I'm looking forward to going over and having some time away from the humdrum of work, telephones, traffic etc and am looking forward to some peace and quiet, time to read and reflect, and some walking in the countryside. We do have two bedroom floors and the hall, landing and stairs to sand down and varnish too, but I'm sure we'll get it all done.

Also looking forward to some nice rose wine, baguettes and cheese after the usual trip to the market at Villedieu-les-Poeles.

So, all in all hoping to have a great couple of days. Hope it's not too cold!

Shadowlands

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-12 - 09:04:12

I went to see the stage version of the great book and film 'Shadowlands' - the story of CS Lewis last night at the Novello Theatre in The Strand, London. Charles Dance played CS Lewis and Janie Dee played Joy Grisham.  The acting was superb, particularly the parts of CS Lewis and his brother Morley.
I have loved reading Lewis's books over the years and he has always seemed to be an interesting character.

The opening sequence starts with him asking the very question that we discussed recently in Church - 'If there is a God, why does He allow suffering in the world?'  What a deep question, but he concluded the whole evening with this answer....

“God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

I guess that's really very true, it's so very easy to side-line God when things are going well and acknowledge Him occasionally, when our conscience's allow, but purposefully call and rely upon Him when the going gets tough.  He has to get our attention somehow I suppose, we are all deaf at times.

It was a great evening's entertainment and thoroughly enjoyable.

Be still

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-11 - 08:37:09

At the start of a new week and after a busy weekend, it's good to remember this very thought......

Be Still & Know

Blown Away Weekend

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-10 - 23:59:42

I've had another great weekend where I've enjoyed some great fellowship and fun with friends, the usual bunch and some that I've not seen for a while too. I have enjoyed a lovely walk in the countryside, had some brilliant Bible teaching and generally been really very encouraged. Two things though, have really blown me away, the first being something I have heard and the second, something I have read, but both of them are very closely linked.

I have been adopted into God's family and am clothed in the righteousness of Christ.....

I've known this for years in a vague sort of way, but only recently have I really grasped the full extent of what that means. I was reminded of it again yesterday.
This brings me on to the second wonder of this weekend. I was reminded of it yesterday and also again as I read my book this morning...... how much time I have wasted in running this race in the past, how much time I have to make up for, and ultimately how much further there is to go.  The illustration is by D Martin Lloyd-Jones and it relates to the verse in Ephesians 1 v 13 about the sealing of the Spirit and sanctification, involving a gardener, a seed and the sun and the rain.

A gardener prepares the soil and plants a seed. There is life in the seed but it's been a bad Spring, cold, no rain and no sunshine. Weeks pass and the gardener inspects the soil, no growth, disappointment and doubt as to whether the seed was good after all. After a while, he begins to just see the seed sprouting and appearing just above the surface, just a kind of green haze and no more. It remains like that for days, nothing seems to be happening and again he is discouraged, and it goes on like that for some time. But suddenly a day comes with glorious sunshine, and then a shower of rain and he can almost see the whole thing springing up before him. There was life there all along, there was life in the seed but the gardener couldn't see it, but when the sun and the rain came the whole thing was stimulated and he could see it change and grow before his very eyes.

In other words, the moment a person is born again and this divine seed enters into him, the life has started and there is this imperceptible growth. But let the rain and sunshine of the Spirit come upon him, let the love of God be shed abroad in his heart, and you will see him springing up into life and vigour and activity; his sanctification, everything about him, is stimulated in a most amazing and astonishing manner.

I've been made righteous in Christ and sanctified by God - Praise be to God!

God's Gift

Salvation's Song

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-07 - 09:11:03

Another great song from the new album of Stuart Townend.

I love the first verse, the fact that Christ had chosen me to be His even before the creation of the world is something that still amazes me and has me in awe.

LOVED BEFORE THE DAWN OF TIME,
Chosen by my Maker,
Hidden in my Saviour:
I am His and He is mine,
Cherished for eternity.

When I'm stained with guilt and sin,
He is there to lift me,
Heal me and forgive me;
Gives me strength to stand again,
Stronger than I was before.

So with every breath that I am given
I will sing salvation's song;
And I'll join the chorus of creation
Giving praise to Christ alone.

All the chains of Satan's curse
Lifted through His offering,
Satisfied through suffering;
All the blessings He deserves
Poured on my unworthy soul.

So with every breath that I am given
I will sing salvation's song;
And I'll join the chorus of creation
Giving praise to Christ alone.

Singing glory, honour, wisdom, power
To the Lamb upon the throne.
Hallelujah, I will lift Him high.
Singing glory, honour, wisdom, power
To the Lamb upon the throne.
Hallelujah I will sing with every breath that I am given
I will sing salvation's song;
And I'll join the chorus of creation
Giving praise to Christ alone.

Stars will fade and mountains fall;
Christ will shine forever,
Love's unfading splendour.
Earth and heaven will bow in awe,
Joining in salvation's song.

The Bucket List

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-06 - 23:44:50

Last night we went to a free viewing of the new film 'The Bucket List' starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. I really enjoyed it, it was a great evening's entertainment. They both seem to compliment each other very well, the acting was superb and they looked as though they had great fun filming it.

They are both patients in the same hospital and both find out that they are suffering with cancer and only have 6 months to live, Morgan Freeman a married man with a family starts to make a 'bucket list' of things to do before he kicks the bucket. Jack Nicholson is a lonely but very wealthy businessman and the pair of them set about achieving all the things on their list. The list being quite extensive from car racing, to sky diving to summiting Everest.

It made me think what would I have on my list, if I was in their shoes?

Also, when actually talking about death they said that they thought they would be asked 2 questions whilst standing before God -

1 - Did you find joy in your life? and
2 - Did you bring joy to others through your life?

I'm sure there will be more than 2 questions I'm asked when I stand before my God as I give an account to Him, but still, these are 2 questions well worth asking.

Daffodowndilly

She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead."

Lunchtime Views

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-05 - 19:49:35

It was a lovely bright day today, but rather windy. I went for a walk in my lunch break down to the River Cray. How nice it was just to get out and have a wander in the middle of the day away from the busyness of the office and see views like this.

There Is A Hope.....

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-04 - 09:20:11

The latest Stuart Townend CD came thundering through the letter box at the weekend and I have enjoyed listening to many of his new songs. There are a few oldies on there too, so all in all, a bit of a mixture. It was recorded live in Ireland and its great to hear the fiddles and pipes on some of the songs. I'm really pleased as it has the 'Communion Song' - 'Behold The Lamb' on it, we sang this when I last went to one of his concerts and we really liked it. The words are great. The title track 'There Is A Hope' is also really rather nice.

THERE IS A HOPE that burns within my heart,
That gives me strength for every passing day;
A glimpse of glory now revealed in meagre part,
Yet drives all doubt away:
I stand in Christ, with sins forgiven;
And Christ in me, the hope of heaven!
My highest calling and my deepest joy,
To make His will my home.

There is a hope that lifts my weary head,
A consolation strong against despair,
That when the world has plunged me in its deepest pit,
I find the Saviour there!
Through present sufferings, future's fear,
He whispers 'courage' in my ear.
For I am safe in everlasting arms,
And they will lead me home.

There is a hope that stands the test of time,
That lifts my eyes beyond the beckoning grave,
To see the matchless beauty of a day divine
When I behold His face!
When sufferings cease and sorrows die,
And every longing satisfied.
Then joy unspeakable will flood my soul,
For I am truly home.

Lazy weekend

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-04 - 09:17:25

Another suuny weekend passes, they forecast heavy snow and we got brilliant sunshine allbeit very cold but rather nice and refreshing.

It's been a busy weekend really, Friday night spent playing the 24 DVD game, quite cool but a little difficult at times! A good evening's entertainment though. It was nice to meet up with several other ladies from the Church on Saturday morning for a prayer breakfast/brunch - a great start to the day. Then I had the opportunity to go the park for a walk before visiting a friend who has just had an op. Again, we had a great time of prayer together and a lovely chat.

In the evening we had several friends over for another games evening, all very competitive and charcter-building for those of us who lost!!!

Sunday, we had 2 Church services again, great singing and fellowship once more and covered the hot topic of 'healing' in the evening, which brought about great debate later in the evening. It's good to be able to thrash these subjects out and get a clearer understanding of them.

As usual, a very enjoyable weekend - roll on the next one!

Come Holy Spirit!

by RacyTracy @ 2008-02-01 - 18:31:16

I've been reading a great book recently, really inspiring - all about the Holy Spirit and revival. It's been really encouraging and thought-provoking. Wouldn't it be wonderful to witness a real mighty out-pouring of the Holy Spirit upon our sad and troubled land? Wouldn't it be great to see families and communities surrender to the gospel and submit to Christ and all that He offers? Well, God is a BIG God, He is all powerful and almighty and nothing is too difficult for Him.

As a Church this year we will be seeing some changes, but I am convinced that God will work His purposes out and that we will go on to achieve great and mighty things for His glory at our Church. He WILL build His Church. God IS at work amongst us and there IS an element of the Holy Spirit falling upon us and renewing us each and every day, and making us more receptive to Him. So, that can only be a good thing. We just need to look at all the positives and not get bogged down with the negatives and keep striving on, keeping in step with the Spirit, moving forward and not looking back.

I personally need to remember this more than most and not let the Devil get a foothold by making me doubt our strengths, capabilities and God's total sovereignty. It's all over to Him, we need to just be led and guided by his Spirit. Bring it on God!
